NY Times에 나온 Apple의 2007년도 135% 성장을 결론 내리는 재미난 글이 올라와서 이렇게 소개합니다.

Apple이 맨하탄에만 Apple Store를 5번째로, 그것도 미국내 Apple Store의 13번째 Flagshop을 마련한 데에는 나름대로의 전략과 전술을 뒷받침하는 근거가 있었습니다.

구체적이지는 않지만 미국내 Dell, SONY, Nokia, 그리고 SAMSUNG과 같은 국제적인 경쟁자들과 당당히 싸워 점유율을 1%씩 올리는 것은 힘든 싸움이 될 수 있다는 것을 미리 Steve Jobs는 예언하고 실행한 것이 아닐까 합니다.

The close attention paid to detail in the stores’ designs, such as the maple veneer tables used for product displays, gives the impression that Steven P. Jobs himself, the company’s co-founder and chief executive, signed off on every square aesthetic inch of every store.

Apple Store의 Interior Design은 많이 봐서 알 것으로 예상됩니다. 그것을 본격적으로 실행해서 24시간 돌아가는 Apple Store의 화려한 미관을 보여주게 한 장본인은 Steven P. Jobs, 테이블과 상품 디스플레이, Glossy한 유리로 장식하는 인테리어에서 Apple Product를 더욱 빛내게 하는 잠재적인 매력이 뒷받침하게 되었습니다.

한국에는 Apple Store의 공식 이름을 담은 retail이 없지만, 미국과 영국에는 화려한 Exterior와 Interior를 자랑하는 retail off-line Shop이 많이 있습니다.

Apple이 올해 들어 iPhone과 iPod touch, iPod 6G 등을 발표하면서, 그리고 내년에 선보이게 될(저의 개인적인 예측 입니다) 맥북프로의 미니 버전 13인치 동생이 어떤 모습으로 나올지 여부도 Apple Stock에 큰 영향을 주었다고 생각합니다.

NY Times에서 말하는 Apple Store 성공 비결을 여러가지 복합적인 내용들을 두고 말해주고 있다는 것에 국내 언론이 보는 기업의 성공 케이스와 사뭇다르게 비춰지고 있었습니다.

실패와 성공을 경쟁 기업과 함께 묶어서 내보내 주는 미국 언론의 모습도 특히 하지만, 그런 기업을 존경하고 부강시키려는 기업의 미디어 본연의 임무에 충실해주었다는 것에 이번 기사에 큰 점수를 주고 싶은 내용 입니다.
